
Women's Volleyball Closes Out Penn State Classic With 3-0 Sweep Of Central Michigan

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Princeton University women's volleyball team closed out the Penn State Classic with a 3-0 (25-10, 25-17, 27-25) sweep of Central Michigan inside Rec Hall Saturday afternoon.
Valerie Nutakor led the match in kills with 13, hitting .303, and added eight digs. Lucia Scalamandre also recorded double figure kills as she finished with 11 on a .786 attacking percentage, while also finishing with three blocks. Sydney Draper tallied her fourth double-double of the season with a match-high 29 assists and 10 digs, sharing the team-high with Sydney Bold and Olivia Foye. Additionally, Shelby Burriss tied the match-high in blocks with five.
Princeton got off to a strong start in the first set, edging ahead, 12-9. A Chippewa attacking error followed by a Nutakor Kill then a Foye service ace saw the Tigers gain a 15-9 advantage and Princeton did not look back from there. Ignited by a kill by Ava Harrington, the Tigers would close the set out on a 10-run and secure the commanding 25-10 opening set victory.
A service ace by Erin McNair followed by a pair of Burriss kills to open the second set extended Princeton's run to 13-0 and gave the Tigers a 3-0 advantage. With Princeton ahead, 10-7, a 5-0 run saw the Tigers extend their lead to 15-7. Shortly after, a kill by Harrington led a 6-0 run that put Princeton up, 22-12, as Princeton would earn a 25-17 triumph in the second set.
The Chippewas refused to quit and led 14-11 in the third set. Princeton was able to tie the score at 19-19 following a Central Michigan attacking error followed by three consecutive double blocks by Harrington and Burriss, then earn match point at 24-23 following a Nutakor kill. The Chippewas were able to tie the score, 25-25, but kills by Scalamandre then McNair saw Princeton complete the 3-0 sweep and prevail in the third set, 27-25.
Ivy League play opens on Sept. 26 inside the Palestra against the University of Pennsylvania (5-3) at 7 p.m.
