Thrilling Goals Send Princeton Past Seton Hall, 3-1
September 24, 2025 | Men's Soccer
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Delivering the Pirates their first home loss of the season, the Princeton men's soccer team downed Seton Hall, 3-1, on Tuesday night.
Three Tigers scored in the contest, including Kristian Kelley, who struck first with his first collegiate goal, Daniel Ittycheria and Bardia Hormozi.
With the win, Princeton improves to 5-1 on the season, while Seton Hall falls to 3-2-3.
This was a midweek road win against a strong Seton Hall team. Our group showed a strong mentality; we were solid defensively throughout the game and continued to prove we are a hard team to score against, and we had three special scoring plays that helped put the game out of reach. It is a great result. - Associate Head Coach Steve Totten
How It Happened
Neither side wasted time after the first whistle, as the Tigers and the Pirates started the game with the pressure on. The first solid chance would go to the Pirates as a shot went high in the 11th minute, with Hormozi and Gabe Duchovny countering with their own shots to force a save by the Pirate keeper Matias Molina just moments later.
In the 27th minute, a free kick outside the box allowed Seton Hall's Hugo Gerbore to launch a ball towards the Tigers' net, but Princeton goalkeeper Andrew Samuels dove to the right to come up with the stop.
As the half continued on in a stalemate with each team attacking and countering, it would seem neither Princeton nor Seton Hall would be able to secure an advantage before the half.
With just three minutes left before the break, a throw-in deep in the Pirates' end deflected off a defender and towards sophomore Kelley, who had entered the game just minutes before. Taking one touch to stop the ball and one more to launch it, Kelley lasered the ball from the right corner of the box all the way into the left side of the goal to put the Tigers up 1-0.
Coming out of halftime, Seton Hall was relentless as they looked for a goal. Just moments in, a series of corner kicks by the Pirates would ask questions of the Tiger defense, but they were able to answer each time with Samuels making another big save.
Playing out of their solid back line, the Tigers continued to press as they looked for another goal. In the 60th minute, Ittycheria found the ball at his feet and space in the box as he raced towards the Pirate goal, but Seton Hall's Konstantin Donalies denied him with a foul, drawing a red card.
Minutes after the Pirate's ejection, Seton Hall would find an equalizer as chaos in a crowded box found the ball tapped into Princeton's net after a corner.
Before Seton Hall could get any momentum, however, Princeton was there to regain the lead moments later. Jack Jasinski sent a perfectly placed ball into the box, finding Ittycheria, who sent it up and over the hands of Molina to put the Tigers up 2-1.
Still not satisfied, Princeton continued to push. In the 77th minute, Hormozi picked the ball off a Pirate near midfield, and breaking away, launched it from outside the box into the bottom left corner of the net.
With the win solidified by Hormozi's goal, Princeton stood to take the road win 3-1.
