About the Tigers
- Princeton is coming off a 2-0, two-sweep weekend at home as they took down Merrimack and St. Thomas Aquinas last Friday and Saturday, 3-0. With the wins, the Tigers are now 2-3 on the year.
- Owen Mellon had a combined 16 kills on the weekend, while Tristan Whitfield led the Tigers in points with 21.5 from 14 kills, 3 aces and a combined eight blocks.
- Whitfield's 1.13 blocks per set, from two solo and 16 assists, put him first in the EIVA.
- Mellon leads the Tigers and ranks second in the EIVA in kills per set with 3.81. He also ranks third in the league in hitting percentage with .302.
- Mellon had a red-hot start for the Tigers, recording double figures in each of the first three games of the season.
- For his career-high 20 kills and .417 hitting against #5 USC, Mellon was named EIVA Offensive Player of the Week on Jan. 19. He now averages 4.50 kills per set and .315 hitting.
- Nolan Kelly has led the Tigers in assists, averaging 8.07 a set.
- Roan Alviar has been solid for the Tigers at libero, averaging 1.94 digs a set while coming up in clutch moments.
- The Tigers were ranked #19 in the latest AVCA poll.
- Princeton was picked to finish fourth in the EIVA preseason poll, with Mason Rice and Ryan Vena named players to watch.
- Princeton kicked off preseason with a trip to Canada, where the Tigers took home two exhibition wins over McMaster and TMU.
- Last year, the Tigers won the EIVA regular season championship. Ultimately, they fell to Penn State in the EIVA tournament finals.
- The Tigers are led by Head Coach Sam Shweisky, in his 17th year. He is assisted by Joe Norton, in his third.
About NJIT
- NJIT is 5-5 on the year, most recently coming off two 3-1 wins over LIU and FDU last weekend.
- Andre Aleixo leads the Highlanders in kills with 3.22 a set. Bruno Figueiredo leads in assists with an average of 8.21/s.
- Defensively, Aleixo also leads the squad in digs with 1.36/s. Alex Heins averages 0.86 blocks per set with three solo and 14 assists on the year.
- Princeton leads the series 26-6 all-time.
