PRINCETON, N.J. (11/19/15) - The Princeton men's hockey team hosts a pair of nationally ranked teams this weekend, as No. 14 St. Lawrence and No. 20 Clarkson visit Hobey Baker Rink.
EYE ON THE TIGERSPrinceton is 1-5 on the season and 0-4 in the ECAC after dropping a pair of close games to Dartmouth and No. 7 Harvard during the home openers. Sophomore David Hallisey has the most points on the team with three, while junior Ben Foster, sophomore Eric Robinson and freshman Max Véronneau have two goals each. Senior Jonathan Liau, sophomore Joe Grabowski, and freshmen Ryan Kuffner and Alex Riche have two points apiece. Junior Colton Phinney has a .944 save percentage and a 2.21 goals against average with all six decisions.
SCOUTING THE SAINTS
St. Lawrence is 7-3-1 on the season and moved up one place in the national poll to No. 14 after a 3-0 shutout of Clarkson on Friday night. The Saints are 2-1 in the ECAC with a win over Union and an overtime loss to league leader Rensselear on Nov. 6 & 7. The Saints scoring offense and defense is both in the top-four in the league at 3.36 goals per game and 2.09 goals against per game. It’s power play is 4 of 50, ranking 11th in the league while it’s penalty kill is fourth at 91.1 percent (51/56). The team is leading offensively, ironically, by two defenders. Gavin Bayreuther has four goals and six assists for 10 points, while Eric Sweetman has three goals and six assists for nine points. Sophomore Joe Sullivan follows in the scoring category with eight points on three goals and five assists. Sophomore Kyle Hayton has started in goal for 10 of the team’s 11 games. He has a .925 save percentage and a 2.09 GAA. Freshman Arthur Brey played one game, the overtime tie with Penn State.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson dropped one place in the national poll after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of travel partner St. lawrence on Friday night. It was the only game of the week for the Green & Gold, who are now 0-2-1 in their last three games - all ECAC games. The team is 5-3-1 overall, and went 5-1 in non-conference play during the month of October. Junior Jodan Boucher had nine points on three goals and a team-best six assists. Classmate A.J. Fossen has scored the most goals - five - and adds two assists for seven points. Sophomore Sam Vigneault and junior defender James de Haas (DET) chip in seven points apiece as well. Junior Steve Perry owns every decision and has played in all nine games. He has an .893 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA. Junior Ville Runola has seen limited time, 23 minutes, as the backup.
