Princeton and Holy Cross Meet For First Time in Nearly 30 Years

PRINCETON, N.J. (1/1/16) - The New Year kicks off with Princeton taking on Holy Cross in a non-conference game on Saturday, Jan. 2. Game time is a 7:05 p.m., at the DCU Center in Worcester, Mass.
EYE ON THE TIGERSThe Tigers lost a pair of games to travel partner and No. 3 ranked Quinnipiac in a a home-and-home series this week. After falling 6-0 at home on Tuesday, the Tigers held a 3-1 lead after the first period in Game 2 before the Bobcats rallied for a 4-3 win, scoring 5x3 game winner in the second period. Princeton is 4-11 overall and 3-7 in the ECAC, and have played four of its last five games against ranked opponents. The young Tigers have four underclassmen leading the way on offense, with freshman Ryan Kuffner in double digits with 10 points on four goals and six assists. Sophomore David Hallisey has a team-best seven assists and two goals for nine points. Sophomore Eric Robinson has scored a team-high six goals and adds one helper for seven points, while freshman Max Véronneau and junior Ryan Siiro chip in five points apiece. In goal junior Colton Phinney boasts a .929 save percentage, making over 550 saves in 15 games and a 2.85 goals against average. Sophomore Ben Halford has backed up in tow games.
SCOUTING THE CRUSADERS
Holy Cross is 10-6-1 overall and most recently defeated McGill in an exhibition game on Wednesday night, 5-2. The Crusaders are unbeaten in their last seven game, 6-0-1 - their last loss on Nov. 13 at Air Force. Holy Cross is 9-3-1 in the Atlantic Hocky League, and has faced just four non-confernece opponents: Quinnipiac (L 5-3, L 4-2), Providence (L 4-1) and Brown (W 7-5), all coming in the month of October. Junior Mike Barrett leads the offense with 10 goals and five assists for 15 points. Senior defender Jake Bolton has 14 points off of a team-high 13 assists and one goal, while sophomore T.J. Moore has six goals and seven assists for 14 points. Freshman Michael Laffin, sophomore Ryan Ferrill, senior Matt vidal and senior Joe McNamara add 11 points apiece. Sophomore Paul Berrafato has started in 13 of the team’s 17 games in goal. He has a .920 save percentage and a 2.15 GAa. Backing him up is freshman Tommy Nixon with a .866 save percentage, 4.19 GAA in four games.
THE PRINCETON/HOLY CROSS SERIES
It’s been nearly 30 years since these two teams have met on the ice. Princeton is undefeated at 4-0 in the series with Holy Cross with the teams’ four meeting coming in the 1970s and 80s. The last time the team’s met it was a 12-0 win by the Tigers at home on Dec. 18, 1988. This will be the first meeting in the series outside of Hobey Baker Rink.
