PRINCETON, N.J. (3/3/16) - The Princeton men's hockey team takes on Clarkson in the ECAC Hockey Tournament first-round series at Cheel Arena this weekend. In a best-of-three series, the No. 12 seeded Tigers will play at No. 5 Clarkson on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m., Saturday, March 5 at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 6 at 7 p.m. (if necessary).
The series will also be webstreamed on the ECAC Hockey Web site for a fee of $9.95 per game.
EYE ON THE TIGERS
Princeton enters the playoffs with a 5-21-3 overall record. The Tigers finished 12th in the ECAC with a 3-16-3 league record. Most recently Princeton played to a 2-2 draw with Brown in the season finale at Hobey Baker Rink. Two freshman are the team leaders in scoring: Ryan Kuffner and Max Véronneau. Kuffner has five goals and a team-best 14 assists, while Véronneau has the most goals with 10 and adds five assists. Sophomores Eric Robinson and David Hallisey both chip in 11 points apiece and junior Ryan Siiro has nine. Freshman Josh Teves and sophomore Joe Grabowski each have seven points as the top scoring defenders. Junior Colton Phinney has started in all but one game and has a .923 save percentage and a 2.92 GAA, and lead the league in saves.
THE SERIES
Clarkson holds an 80-31-5 edge in the all-time series. The teams split the series this season with Princeton defeated then-ranked No. 17 Clarkson 3-0 on Nov. 21 at home before a 5-2 Clarkson win on Feb. 12 here at Cheel Area. Kyle Rankin leads all players against the Golden Knights with five points, while Mike Ambrosia has four points. Ben Foster and Josh Teves have three apiece. Colton Phinney is 3-4 against Clarkson with a .921 save percentage and a 2.55 GAA.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN KNIGHTS
Clarkson earned the No. 6 seed in the ECAC playoffs, losing a tiebreaker to Rensselaer as both finished fifth in the standings. Clarkson is 18-13-3 overall and 10-9-3 in the league. The team has had hot and cold spots all season. Last weekend the squad sweep Harvard and Dartmouth, following an 0-3 spell. Sophomore Sam Vigneault has 25 points on a team-high 11 goals and a team-high 14 assists. Junior Jordan Boucher has 21 points on eight goals and 21 points and classmate A.J. Fossen adds 18 points on eight goals and 10 helpers. Sophomore Brett Gervais is next on the list with 17 points. The team’s leading scoring defender is sophomore Terrance Amorosa who has four goals and 10 assists. Eight others are in double digits in scoring - none of which are freshmen. Senior Greg Lewis has played the majority of minutes in goal and has a 12-7-2 record with a .924 save percentage and a 2.07 GAA. Junior Steve Perry is 6-6-1 with an .886 save percentage and a 2.86 GAA. Each played in a game against the Tigers this season with Lewis earning the win and Perry the loss.

MEETING IN THE PLAYOFFS
• This is the third first-round series between Princeton and Clarkson, since the current format of the ECAC Tournament in 2002-03. The teams met in 2006 and 2014 with Clarkson winning both 1-4.
• Clarkson and Princeton have played in 11 ECAC playoff games. Princeton has played only Brown more times. The teams met in the first round in 2006 and ‘14, the quarterfinals in 2000, the semifinals in 1995, ‘97 and ‘99 and the championship in 1998. Clarkson is 8-3 in those games.
• Clarkson is 6-1 against Princeton at Cheel Arena during the playoffs.
