Jamel Jones began his tenure at Princeton in the summer of 2019, serving as athletic trainer for the Men’s Basketball, Men’s Swimming and Women’s Water Polo teams. While in this role, he has joined other support groups on campus focusing on the overall well-being of the student athlete and people of color such as Student-Athlete Wellness Leaders (S.A.W.L.’s), Tigers Paw, and Princeton DEI Committee. In addition to his First Aid/CPR/AED certification, Jones also is a certified Vestibular Therapist from the American Institute of Balance, as well as a certified practitioner of Blood Flow Restriction Therapy from Owen’s Recovery Science.
Prior to joining the Tigers Athletic Medicine Staff, Jamel spent 7 years at the University of Pennsylvania, working primarily with the Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Track and Field program. While there, he also made student and student-athlete well-being a priority by creating campus educational programing as a member of the Penn Wellness Partners interdisciplinary group and Penn Sports Medicine Disordered Eating Team.
While at Penn, Jones completed his Masters Degree in Intercollegiate Administration from California University of Pennsylvania in 2016, which focused on creating a business plan dedicated to creating a well-rounded educational symposium, integrating the Ivy League institution with its neighboring community. Giving young athletes, coaches and aspiring medical professionals to shadow and engage with current and former members of the Penn umbrella while also creating resources for the sports performance department.
Before arriving back in Philadelphia in the fall of 2012, Jones spent 1 year as a Graduate Intern at the University of Houston, also working primarily with the men’s and women’s cross country/ track and field programs. While there he also provided routine care and injury management of former Alum and local professional athletes preparing for the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Jones received his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training from Temple University in 2011. There, he gained experience as an athletic trainer working with sports such as Temple Women’s Basketball, Field Hockey, Women’s Basketball, Men’s Soccer as well as Temple and Penn Football.
