Brent Matheson is in his fifth year as the volunteer assistant coach with the Princeton women's swimming and diving team, and he has helped the Tigers win two of the last four Ivy League championships, including the 2015 title.
Matheson has been involved in competitive swimming his whole life, and he has been a head senior coach for a local USA Swimming club team since 2004. In 2006 and 2007, he was named a "Coach of Excellence" by the American Swim Coaches Association for having a swimmer reach an A final at a USA Swimming Senior National meet.
Matheson has both coached and taken swimmers to both the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Trials. In 2005, one of his swimmers was named to the USA Swimming National Select Camp, conducted at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, where Matheson was a coach participant at the camp.
Matheson has local ties, as he grew up swimming in the area and competed with his first club team at the Dillon Gym pool. He swam for local prep power Peddie, and then was a four-year letterwinner at Penn State, where he was an NCAA qualifier.
A former trial attorney and state criminal prosecutor, Matheson lives with his wife and three children in Skillman, N.J.
