Scott Champ has completed his sixth season as an assistant coach at Princeton in 2010. Champ is a 1992 graduate of the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Cavaliers’ 1989 and 1991 NCAA championship teams.
In his fourth season in 2008, Champ helped the Tigers to their first NCAA tournament appearance since he joined the staff following the program's 2004 NCAA College Cup semfinal run. Fittingly, Princeton's first-round NCAA game last season was played at Champ's alma mater, Virginia.
At Princeton, Champ provides valuable support in all areas of running a program. These duties include game and practice preparation and implementation, maintaining a national recruiting base of outstanding scholar-athletes, arranging travel and transportation, fall and spring game scheduling, game video editing, procurement of equipment and organizing Princeton’s winter and summer camps.
Champ came to Old Nassau from Texas A&M, where he helped guide the women’s soccer team to the Big 12 championship in 2004. He graduated with a degree in chemistry after earning Academic All-ACC honors. He also completed coursework toward a Ph.D in organic chemistry while at Texas A&M.
After graduation Champ played professionally in Hungary and then in the United States in the USISL. He also has more than a decade of coaching experience on the youth level and holds a U.S. Soccer Federation “A” license, the highest level the organization awards. He and his wife Bethany have a son Asa and a daughter Vivien.
