Athletic Accomplishments:
Maddie was a defensive specialist/libero for the Ivy League champion Princeton women's volleyball team. She had 19 digs as the starting libero in the NCAA tournament match against #10 BYU last fall.
Off the Court:
Maddie got involved with Athletes In Action as a freshman, and she took part in the Toys Drive in each of her first two years on campus. Last December, she joined Ojima Agada and John Lovett to run the Toys Drive, which gets every Princeton varsity team involved. She estimates that the teams were able to provide presents for approximately 350 children this past holiday season. Maddie is also a member of the VSAAC (Varsity Student Athletic Advisory Committee), a group that continues to develop important initiatives to improve certain aspects of the student-athlete experience.
More recently, Maddie helped to organize the diversity initiative for student-athletes that will happen this Thursday through Saturday (March 2-4). People will be making t-shirts and holding an event in the Frist Campus Center where people can write what diversity means to them; on Friday, people will be wearing the shirts all day. On Monday night, March 6, there will be an event in the Carl Fields Center, where student-athletes talk about diversity on their teams.
Maddie on the experience:
"When I first came here I was a little overwhelmed with the other commitments I have, resulting in me not being able to dedicate as much time as I would like to service. But I think that I realized through this project that if you work with such great other people, like I did with Ojima and John, you can get some really great things done. I also love the consistent participation from all Princeton varsity teams. Even though we are all busy with our own schedules, we find time to get together for a great cause."
