PRINCETON, N.J. - After notching its biggest win in the past several years last Saturday against Brown, the Princeton Tiger men's soccer team proved that it would not let down this evening. The Tigers outlasted the Loyola Greyhounds by a score of 2-1 at Lourie-Love Field in Princeton. The victory improves the Tigers' record to 6-3 overall and breaks Loyola's five match winning streak. Loyola falls to 8-4-1
Will Rodgers (So., Bay Village, Ohio) started things off with a 20-yard blast off a rebound at the 25:39 mark. The unassisted goal was the first of his career.
After the halftime break, the game became more physical. Tiger defender Griff Behncke (Sr., Williamsburg, Va.) was red carded for a hit on Peter Troilo. The collision caused Troilo to break his lower right leg. The Tigers, already playing without head coach Jim Barlow who was serving a red card suspension from last Saturday's game, had to play the remaining 30 minutes with a man down.
Playing a man down, Princeton took the lead for good in the 77th minute when Kevin Griffin (Jr., Jenkintown, Pa.) went streaking down the left sideline and centered a pass for Walker Wright (Sr., Princeton, N.J.) who put the goal home from the doorstep with a diving header. Loyola got an unassisted goal by Mike Nelson in the 83rd minute.
Reigning Ivy League Rookie of the Week, Jason White (Fr., Maple Glen, Pa.), kept the Greyhounds at bay for the rest of the way, making four saves on 10 shots. Loyola keeper Reb Beatty who leads the MAAC in goals against average with a 0.49 mark and was the owner of a four-match shutout streak, took the loss, making two saves on five Tiger shots.
