PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's tennis team is now 2-0 on the season on the heels of today's performances. The Tigers disposed of James Madison 6-0 in the first round and then quickly took care of Penn in the afternoon session 5-1. The Tigers are now semifinalists in the ECAC women's tennis championships and take on Harvard tomorrow.
In Princeton's first match of the day against James Madison, Kavith Krishnamurthy (Fr., Oakville, Ontario) defeated Sheri Puppo in straight sets. No Tiger player lost a set in the first round matchup. Princeton was so dominant that they doubles matches were not even necessary.
In Princeton's second round match, Amanda Hastings-Phillips (Sr., Laguna Beach, Calif.) moved up from her normal No. 3 singles position to the No. 1 slot due to sickness and injury. She did not miss a beat and Princeton only dropped one singles match in the 5-1 domination of Penn. The doubles matches were not necessary in this match either.
The Tigers play Harvard tomorrow at 9:00 at the Lenz Tennis Center in the semifinals. The other semifinal matchup is Dartmouth against Virginia. That match is being played on adjacent courts at Lenz. The other half of the draw is being played at Rutgers University.
