PRINCETON, N.J. - After a three-game road trip, the Princeton women's soccer team returned home and shutout Ivy opponent Columbia 2-0 on a chilly Lourie-Love Field tonight. The Tigers put two goals on the board in the first half and held on defensively for the win. The victory was the 11th of the season for the Orange and Black, marking the first 11-win season since 1989.
On the final day of mid-terms, the Tigers came out a little flat in the opening stanza, mustering only two shots in the first 30 minutes of play. Senior defenseman Susan Rea (Palo Alto, Calif.) dribbled the ball into open field and fired a bullet from about 35 yards out to put Princeton up 1-0 in the 31st minute. That goal proved to be a spark, as Tanya Kalivas (Jr., Franklin Lakes, N.J.) followed up a shot by Dana DeCore (Sr., Pennington, N.J.) for the second goal of the game at the 31:18 mark.
"It was a tough week with mid-terms," head coach Julie Shackford said. "It wasn't a pretty game, but we did what we needed to do. We got the goals early."
Goalkeeper Jordan Rettig (Jr., West Hartford, Conn.) went the distance in net, making two saves without allowing a goal.
Princeton is now 11-3-1 on the year, 4-1-1 in league play, and will host Loyola on Sunday, Oct. 31, in non-conference action. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
