Back-To-Back Ivy Champs! Women's Soccer Completes Comeback to Win Title
November 01, 2025 | Women's Soccer
No team has ever won the Ivy League women's soccer championship with two league losses.Â
Make that, no team had ever won the Ivy League women's soccer championship with two league losses. Until Saturday.
Using a pair of Alexandra Barry goals in the regular-season finale at Brown on Saturday, the Princeton women's soccer team completed an improbable comeback to win its 12th Ivy League title, its second straight, and for the first time in program history, a second straight outright Ivy League title.
The 2-1 victory over the Bears, in a game that matched the No. 1 and No. 2 picks in the preseason Ivy League poll, lifted Princeton to 15 points in the Ivy standings and a 5-2 league record after a 1-2 league start that had the Tigers on the outside looking in at the Ivy League Tournament.
Now, not only will the Tigers play in the Ivy League Tournament, they'll host it, opening with a rematch against the Bears at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Columbia and Dartmouth will meet in the other semifinal at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, with the winners meeting on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the Ivy League Tournament title and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
The improbable climb through the Ivy League standings after the 1-2 league start came with an improbable amount of injuries for the Tigers this season. From the back line, co-captain Zoe Markesini and rookie Anna Chau, each of whom logged major minutes early in the season, suffered injuries before the Ivy season began. Same for midfielder Brooke Dawahare, who led the 2025 Tiger returners in minutes played in 2024. Esmé Rudell, who played almost every minute of the team's first two Ivy games, was lost during the Yale game that Princeton went on to lose to fall to 1-2. Ally Murphy, a forward, was lost to injury on her Senior Day last week against Columbia, meaning Princeton had lost both its team captains to injury. Saturday's win also saw the medical staff pressed into duty, as Barry, the two-goal scorer in the game, celebrated the Ivy title with her left arm in a sling.Â
Barry's first goal came in the 30th minute after she made a takeaway in the distant part of Princeton's attacking half. Maddie Recupero made a quick flick of the loose ball back to Barry, who launched it from around 30 yards out and sent it past a diving Brown keeper Addison Etter and inside the right post.
The first Tiger lead lasted just less than eight minutes, as Brown was able to keep a play that began on a corner kick dangerous with Claire Silverman finishing a goal to tie it at 1-1 with less than eight minutes before the halftime break.
In the 57th minute, Barry struck again, heading home a long crossing pass from Dylan Jovanovic to the far post to restore the Tiger lead. Despite Brown outshooting the Tigers 8-4 overall and 3-2 on goal, that's where it ended, and the Tigers' Ivy League title-winning comeback was complete.
Adding to the injury notes, Tiger keeper Sydney Romano, who has split halves with Cecilia Cerone in recent games, left after 38 minutes, giving way early to Cerone, who turned in a shutout 52 minutes.Â
