Women's Soccer Roars to Season-Opening Win Over Loyola
August 21, 2026 | Women's Soccer
Twenty-one Tigers played, three Tigers split the goals, and the Princeton women's soccer team raced out to a 3-0, season-opening win over Loyola (Md.) in a storm-delayed game on Thursday night at Roberts Stadium.
Dylan Jovanovic finished a pass ahead from Stella Monberg with 15 minutes left in the opening half, Isabella Garces fired one home from the top of the 18 while being the focus of three Loyola defenders eight minutes later, and with 20 minutes left in the game, Maddie Recupero arced one home for the 3-0 lead.
Cecilia Cerone and Sydney Romano split time in goal, each playing a half on the way to the shutout, with Romano saving all three Loyola shots on goal after the Greyhounds didn't put one on frame in the first half with Cerone between the posts. Princeton outshot Loyola 20-5 overall and 8-5 on goal.
Monberg and backliner Mariana Gomez were the two rookies who made their first collegiate starts in the opener, while Gianna Camporeale, Blane McElroy and Lewa Drew White made their collegiate debuts later in the game.Â
Kayla Wong assisted on each of the first two goals for her first career two-assist game. Jovanovic's and Recupero's goals picked up where each of them left off late last season, with Jovanovic scoring for the third time in the last six games dating back to last year, and Recupero scoring for the third time in the last seven games after each scored her first collegiate goal last October to start those respective stretches. Monberg and Gomez each had an assist for each of their first collegiate points.
Princeton will look to keep the start going with a visit to Syracuse on Sunday at 12 p.m.
