On the Tigers: Princeton split its opening weekend, defeating Loyola (Md.) 3-0 on Thursday night at Roberts Stadium before falling 3-0 at Syracuse on Sunday. Isabella Garces, Dylan Jovanovic and Maddie Recupero scored in the season opener, with Jovanovic scoring the game winner.

Through two games, Princeton has outshot opponents 34-19 overall and 13-11 on goal while holding a 13-5 advantage in corner kicks.

Jovanovic leads Princeton with three points on a goal and an assist, while Garces and Recupero have one goal apiece. Kayla Wong has a team-best two assists, and first-years Stella Monberg and Mariana Gomez each picked up an assist in their collegiate debuts against Loyola. Monberg leads the team with six shots, followed by Garces, Nina Cantor and Brooke Dawahare with four each. Between the posts, Cecilia Cerone and Sydney Romano have split halves in each game, with Cerone making one save on two shots on goal across her two first-half appearances, with the lone goal allowed being a penalty kick at Syracuse. In two second halves, Romano has made seven stops on nine shots, with both goals against coming in the Syracuse game.

Princeton enters 2026 coming off back-to-back outright Ivy League titles for the first time in program history after winning the 2024 Ivy League regular-season and tournament titles and following with the 2025 Ivy League regular-season title. The Tigers went 8-6-3 overall and 5-2 in Ivy League play last season, closing the regular season with five straight wins to claim the Ivy title before defeating Brown in the Ivy League Tournament semifinal and falling 1-0 to Dartmouth in the final.

The Tigers were picked first in the Ivy League preseason poll, receiving 120 points and 10 of the 16 first-place votes. Dartmouth was second with 109 points and four first-place votes, followed by Brown with 98 points and two first-place votes. Columbia was fourth with 81 points, followed by Harvard with 71, Penn with 45, and Cornell and Yale tied for seventh with 26 points apiece.

The Tigers are looking to become the first team since Brown from 2019-23 to win more than two straight Ivy titles, with the Bears winning four in a row, with no season in 2020. Before Brown did it, the last time a team won three straight Ivy titles was Princeton from 2000-02, with two of those three shared, while Brown's four were all outright. The last team before the recent Brown run to win three straight outright titles was Harvard from 1995-97.

Princeton's 2026 schedule includes eight home games, visits to major-conference opponents Syracuse, Ohio State and Rutgers, and early-season home games against Loyola, James Madison and Colgate. The Tigers will face teams from the ACC (Syracuse) and Big Ten (Ohio State, Rutgers) during non-conference play, with Ohio State having made the 2025 NCAA quarterfinals.

On James Madison: James Madison was picked first in the Sun Belt preseason poll for the second straight year, receiving six first-place votes and 182 points. Old Dominion was second with 173 points, while South Alabama was third with 171 points and four first-place votes. The Dukes had three players named to the preseason All-Sun Belt team, forward Ginny Lackey, midfielder Aleigha Arndt and defender Selma Rajakangas. Lackey was also named the Sun Belt Preseason Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season after leading the conference with 28 points on 11 goals and six assists during the 2025 regular season. James Madison is 1-2 through three games, with a 3-1 loss to NC State, a 2-1 win over George Mason and a 6-0 loss at No. 25 Georgia.

Series vs. James Madison: James Madison leads the all-time series with Princeton 2-1. The Dukes won the first two meetings, 2-1 at Princeton in 1993 and 4-1 in Harrisonburg in 1996, before Princeton won the most recent meeting, 6-3 at home in 2010. Sunday's game will be the teams' first meeting in 16 years.

Tigers in the Pros: Princeton's professional footprint continued to grow over the summer when former Tiger goalkeeper Tyler McCamey '25 signed with FC Barcelona Femení after beginning her professional career with Gotham FC, Kansas City Current and Dallas Trinity FC. McCamey was a first-team All-Ivy League and first-team United Soccer Coaches all-region honoree in 2024, when she helped Princeton win both the Ivy League regular-season and tournament titles. Princeton has three alums on NWSL rosters this season, with Pietra Tordin '25 in her second season with the Portland Thorns, Madison Curry '24 with Seattle Reign FC and Aria Nagai '24 with the Utah Royals.\\
