Women's Soccer Team's Comeback Run Ends in Ivy Tournament Final
November 09, 2025 | Women's Soccer
A comeback run from the outside looking in at the four-team Ivy League Tournament just a month earlier came within a win of getting the Princeton women's soccer team to the NCAA tournament on Sunday at Roberts Stadium, but a 63rd-minute free-kick goal was the difference as Dartmouth won the Ivy's automatic NCAA bid in taking the Ivy League Tournament title.
After a 1-2 start to the Ivy League, Princeton won its last four Ivy League games to surge to the top of the league, win the Ivy League championship and host the Ivy League Tournament. The run kept going with a 3-0 win over Brown in Thursday night's semifinal, but Dartmouth got the goal it needed and completed the shutout to take the bid and league tournament title.
Princeton outshot Dartmouth 10-6 overall and 3-1 on goal, but the lone Big Green shot on frame came from a Stephanie Lathrop corner kick just outside the 18 that arced its way inside the right post.
Princeton's three Ivy League All-Tournament honors went to a pair of senior backliners in Drew Coomans and Kelsee Wozniak and a junior midfielder in Kayla Wong. Coomans and Wozniak each played all 180 minutes on the weekend, holding Brown and Dartmouth to just the Lathrop goal and no goals in the run of play. Wong had her first career two-goal game to propel Princeton to a 2-0 lead in the eventual 3-0 semifinal win over Brown.
Following a season that saw Princeton win its 12th Ivy League title in program history and fifth in 10 competitive seasons under Sean Driscoll, the Tigers will graduate backliners in Coomans, Wozniak and Kane, all of whom played all 180 minutes on the weekend, along with midfielder Pia Beaulieu, who played nearly every minute in the tournament, midfielder/defender Summer Pierson, who saw time late in the Brown game, and Ally Murphy, who saw her season end due to injury on Senior Day against Columbia two weekends ago.
Among those able to return are the scorers of 21 of the team's 24 goals on the season, led by current sophomore Alexandra Barry's five, all three keepers on the roster, including both of those who split the tournament in junior Cecilia Cerone and sophomore Sydney Romano. Seven of the starting 11 from Sunday are able to come back, including Romano, sophomore midfielder Dylan Jovanovic, rookie forwards Maddie Recupero and Nina Cantor, rookie backliner Julia Johnson, Barry, and Wong.Â
