Tigers Move to Top of Ivy, Seal Ivy Tourney Bid With Win over Columbia
October 25, 2025 | Women's Soccer
A 16th-minute goal from Dylan Jovanovic and a 66th-minute penalty-kick goal from Nina Cantor, coupled with a paired shutout by Sydney Romano, Cecilia Cerone and the Tiger back line lifted the Princeton women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Columbia, the top spot in the Ivy League standings, and a bid in the Ivy League Tournament.
The Ivy tournament location and the Ivy title are still up for grabs with eyes on Providence next Saturday. Brown, second in the Ivy at 11 points, is just a point behind Princeton's 12 and will host the Tigers next weekend. A win would give Princeton the Ivy title and Ivy tournament hosting rights, with no other team able to get to 15 points.
Princeton honored its seniors before the game, with Pia Beaulieu, Drew Coomans, Caroline Kane, Ally Murphy, Summer Pierson and Kelsee Wozniak recognized.Â
Jovanovic's goal was the sophomore's second in as many games, coming just four days after getting her first career goal in the win over Lehigh. On a free kick, Kane sent the ball toward the box from just inside the Princeton attacking half, and with a couple bounces around an Alexandra Barry header moving it along, Jovanovic fired the loose ball home from just outside the six.
The PK goal came after fellow rookie Maddie Recupero drew a foul in the 18, and Cantor buried the PK to double the Tiger lead.
Though Princeton kept Columbia on its heels for much of the first half, the final stats saw the Lions lead in total shots 9-7 with Princeton leading in shots on goal 4-3 and corners 5-4. All three Columbia shots on goal came in the second half with Cerone between the posts as she kept the clean sheet after Romano did so for the first 45 minutes.
