Weekend One-Timers
Climbing Ivy – Princeton won its first Ivy League championship since 1953 when the Tigers went 6-3-1 in the league last season. The Tigers shared the title with Yale, which Princeton swept in a pair of 5-2 contests.
Take two, please – Princeton has suffered most in the middle period. The Tigers are +1 in first periods and -1 in third periods, but they are a -9 in the second periods.
Why play Tuesday? – Since the 1995-96 season, the team that has won the first meeting between Princeton and Yale has gone on to win the second. Bad sign – During that stretch, the teams have gone back and forth sweeping the season series. Yale won in 1995-96 and 1997-98 while Princeton took the series in 1996-97 and last season.
OK in OT – Although wins are the optimum goal, Princeton has proven that it is a very effective overtime team. The Tigers have either won or tied 18 of their last 19 overtime games.
A power-ful opening – Princeton has scored on its first power-play opportunity in each of its five games.
A Capital gain… for us – Although he is the property of the Washington Capitals, Chris Corrinet is the key figure for Princeton's offense right now. Corrinet recorded a point in each of the four goals scored against Vermont, including his second power-play goal. He is third in the ECAC with six power-play points.
Mmm, Mmm Good – Shane Campbell has scored a goal in three consecutive games, including the game-tying goal against Clarkson with 24 seconds remaining in the third period.
A Lamb-inated honor roll – Princeton junior Kirk Lamb was the first player named to the ECAC Honor Roll (11/15). He scored twice against Dartmouth and had three assists against Vermont.
Not bad by Brad – Brad Parsons had Princeton's first multi-goal period when he scored twice in the third period against Vermont.
Equal rights – Princeton has scored eight goals on the power play and allowed eight goals on its opponents' power-plays.
Sophomore success — Dave Bennett scored his first career goal on a rebound during the second period of the 3-3 tie against Clarkson and had two assists in the tie against Dartmouth.
Beaney Baby… and friends — There has been plenty of quality play by Princeton freshmen. George Parros and Neil McCann have played in each game while Trevor Beaney is tied for the team lead in plus/minus (+2). Ryan Kraliz debuted as a forward against St. Lawrence.
A close shave — Chris Barber scored his fourth career goal in the third period to help Princeton get a point in its 5-5 tie against Dartmouth.
Oh captain, my captain — Darren Yopyk is the first solo captain at Princeton since Sean O'Brien was the only captain of the 1993-94 Tigers' squad.
An A-plus — Brad Meredith had a dramatic improvement in his plus/minus, going from an even in 1997-98 to a +14 in 1998-99, it was the best mark on the team last season.
All over the stat sheet — Benoit Morin is the career statistical leader of all returning Tigers in goals (24), assists (28), points (52), power-play goals (12), game-winning goals (5), penalties (93) and penalty-minutes (229).
The shorthanded savior — Ethan Doyle had three shorthanded goals last season, the rest of his teammates combined to score two. Princeton has no shorthanded goals this season.
By George, he did it – Freshman George Parros, who was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1999 Entry Draft, opened the scoring this season by lighting the lamp in the first period of last weekend's 7-2 loss at Niagara.
