KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Scott Pasquini (Jr., Pittsburgh, Pa.) was one of three Princeton University wrestlers to reach the finals of the Kutztown Invitational on Saturday. Although he and teammates Jeffrey Bernd (Jr., Virginia Beach, Vir.) and Greg Parker (Fr., Clifton Park, Pa.) fell in their championship matches, the overall day was a successful one for the improving Tigers.
Bernd wrestled first in the finals of the 149-pound bracket, but he fell to Rami Ratel of Montclair State 11-8. Parker was next at 165, but he was pinned in 53 seconds by Dom Dellagatta of Montclair State, who was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. Pasquini was pinned by Mike Mitchell of American International in 1:08 of the final of the 174-pound bracket.
"Our young team is still developing. We had a lot of nice, big wins," coach Michael New. "Marc Steyer and Brian Foran both had nice days for us. They both lost their first match and wrestled back really well. Bernd had a great tournament with a close loss in the finals to a really solid kid. We won some close matches that were really positives for us."
Albert Pendleton (Jr., Atlanta, Ga.) was the only Princeton wrestler to win his final match of the day, taking third at 157 pounds with a fall at 5:52 over Chris Jacobs of Kutztown. Marc Steyer (Jr., Topsfield, Mass.) and Brian Foran (Jr., Katona, N.Y.) placed sixth at 125 pounds and 197 pounds, respectively.
