BOSTON, Mass. - The final 40 minutes of this game turned into the “Dave Stathos and Mike Gilhooly Show.” Both goaltenders made spectacular saves, keeping their opponents scoreless.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, the show started with Northeastern leading 3-0. The Huskies jumped out with a three-goal barrage in the first period. Chris Lynch scored an early power-play goal and then Roger Holeczy scored on a breakaway while shorthanded. An even-strength goal by Willie Levesque late in the period gave Northeastern its final 3-0 advantage.
Princeton only mustered 22 shots against freshman goaltender Mike Gilhooly, but there were a number of solid efforts. Junior Chris Corrinet and sophomore David Del Monte both worked for numerous shots, but neither could solve Gilhooly, who recorded his first career shutout.
Dave Stathos made a career-high 38 saves, including 19 in the second period.
