PRINCETON, N.J. - Despite outshooting St. Lawrence 45-29 and jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the
Princeton men's hockey team found itself on the losing end of a 3-1 decision in tonight's league and home opener. The Tigers fall to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the
league while St. Lawrence improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the league.
Chris Corrinet opened the scoring for Princeton by taking a pass from Dave Schneider and beating St. Lawrence goalkeeper Sean Coakley 1:14 into the game. It was a power-play goal that gave Princeton its first lead of the season.
Unfortunately for the Tigers, that was as charitable as Coakley would be. The junior made 45 saves and allowed the No. 8 Saints to rally for a first-period goal and two second-period goals for the win. Robin Carruthers tied the game at 1-1 late in the first period, and Brandon Dietrich and Kevin Veneruzzo added second-period goals to clinch the victory.
Princeton goalie Dave Stathos made 26 saves. The Tigers will host defending ECAC champion Clarkson tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
