PRINCETON, N.J. - The game had a familiar feel to it, fortunately, it wasn't too familiar.
Princeton tied Clarkson tonight 3-3 at Baker Rink to gain its first point of the season. The Tigers got goals from Benoit Morin and Dave Bennett in the first two periods, but found themselves trailing 3-2 during the final minute of regulation. Goalie Craig Bradley, who did a fine job keeping his team in the game with 21 saves, was pulled for an extra attacker, and Shane Campbell knocked in a loose puck to tie the score at 3-3.
The Tigers were well aware that the game wasn't over at that point. In last season's ECAC semifinal, Princeton tied the score at 5-5 against Clarkson in the final minute, only to lose it on a 75-foot slapshot with 2.3 seconds remaining. The Tigers kept up the pressure, outshooting Clarkson 4-1 in overtime but could not beat Clarkson goalie Shawn Grant again.
Morin's goal came at 4:43 of the first period when he blasted a power-play goal in the top corner of the net. Erik Cole, who scored two of Clarkson's three goals, tied the score later in the period. Bennett scored the first goal of his career in the second period by knocking in his own rebound. Clarkson responded with a goal later in the period and one on a 2-on-0 breakaway midway through the third period. On an icing call, Princeton was able to pull Bradley and set up a play. Corrinet found Campbell, who fought through a crowd and found enough of an opening to ensure the Tigers their first ECAC point of the 1999-00 season.
Princeton is now 0-2-1 overall, 0-1-1 in the ECAC and will travel to Dartmouth and Vermont next weekend. The Tigers will play the Big Green on Friday at 7 p.m. Princeton split with Dartmouth last year, including a 7-3 win in Hanover.
