PRINCETON, N.J. - Rutgers' Nick Ross netted his second goal of the season at the 62:07 mark to lift the Scarlet Knights over Princeton 1-0 on a damp Lourie-Love Field on Wednesday night.
Princeton drops to 2-5-1 overall, 1-1 in Ivy competition, while Rutgers improves to 7-4-1.
Both teams enter the break scoreless, but as the rain started to fall in the early minutes of the second half, Princeton gained momentum but could not finish in the penalty area. Possession in the second half evened out, but Rutgers capitalized on a scoring chance to come away with the one goal victory.
A free kick off a Princeton foul set up the game-winning goal for Ross. After being deflected by John Rath, Ross found the back of the net between Princeton keeper Michael Cohen (So., Union, NJ) and the far post.
The Scarlet Knight win was their seventh one goal victory of the season and their 10th one goal game of the year.
Princeton returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 10, as they host Ivy foe Brown. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
