PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers dropped their second game of the week as they fell to Brown 2-0 in a steady drizzle at Lourie-Love Field on Saturday night.
Princeton drops to 2-6-1 overall, 1-2 in Ivy competition, while Brown improves to 8-2, 2-0 in league play.
Brown's Marcio put the Bears on the board at the 41:25 mark when he found the back of the net off two quick touches from Ryan Smith and Scott Powers. The goal was Marcio's fourth of the season.
With 25:22 remaining in the game, Brown added an insurance goal when Anders Kelto connected on a penalty shot after Princeton keeper Michael Cohen (So., Union, NJ) committed a foul in the penalty area.
Princeton's best scoring chance came 25:35 into the first half when Matt Striebel (So., Gill, MA) had a breakaway shot slide just wide of the left post.
The Tigers were forced to play one man down for the final 19:19 after defender Sanjee Weliwitigota (Fr., Gaithersburg, MD) was given a red card for pulling down a Brown player on a breakaway.
Freshman keeper Jeff Gillie (Scotch Plains, NJ) saw his first action of the season. Gillie tallied two critical saves in just over 13 minutes of play.
Princeton returns to action on Wednesday, Oct. 14, as they take on American in the nightcap of a doubleheader in Princeton Stadium. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
