Tigers Needed Overtime to Defeat American

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton Tigers snapped a two-game losing streak as they defeated the American Eagles 2-1 in overtime in the nightcap of a doubleheader in Princeton Stadium on Wednesday.
Princeton improves to 3-6-1 overall, 1-2 in Ivy competition, while American drops to 3-8-1.
Princeton's Griff Behckne (Jr., Williamsburg, VA) connected on a penalty kick at the 99:45 mark. Mike Nugent (Fr., Cranbury, NJ) set up the free kick when he was fouled in the box by American keeper Jeff Angelucci.
Nugent put the Tigers on the board in the 27th minute, netting his first goal of the year. American?s Trevor Ellis tied the game with less than 12 minutes to go in regulation.
Freshman keeper Jeff Gillie (Scotch Plains, NJ) got his first start of the season
Princeton returns to action Saturday, Oct. 17, as they travel to Fairleigh Dickinson. Game time is scheduled for 1 pm.
