Shaner Leads Tigers Over Lafayette

PRINCETON, N.J. - Three Tigers scored their first goal of the season as Princeton blanked Lafayette 4-0 on a chilly Lourie-Love Field Tuesday night in women's soccer action.
The win improves Princeton to 6-2 overall, 1-1 in Ivy competition, while Lafayette drops to 1-10.
Princeton controlled much of the first half, but was unable to finish scoring opportunities early in the game. Julie Shaner (So., Gwynedd Valley, PA) put the Tigers on the board in the 35th minute on a scoring breakaway. Less than five minutes later Tanya Kalivas (So., Franklin Lakes, NJ) connected for her third goal of the season to give Princeton a 2-0 lead going into the break.
The second half saw much of the same, as the Tigers dominated possession in the early minutes. At the 50:29 mark Julie Porter (Sr., W. Patterson, NJ) extended Princeton's lead when she one touched a cross from Dana DeCore (Jr., Pennington, NJ) for the Tigers' third goal of the night. Porter's goal was her first of the year.
Jennie Platt (So., Jacksonville, Fla.) put the game out of reach when she netted a cross off the foot of Rachel Triche (So., Los Angeles, CA) in the 85th minute for the final score of the game.
"In the second half the ball moved quicker, and we capitalized better," head coach Julie Shackford said.
Despite giving up four goals, Lafayette keeper Heather McClelland played very well, making nine saves and deflecting several crosses and loose balls.
The Tigers outshot the Leopards 17-0, and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
The Tigers return to action Friday as they host Ivy opponent Brown. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at Lourie-Love Field.
"Expect Brown to come out and challenge no matter what their record is," Shackford commented. "They are always dangerous." SCORE BY HALVES:
