PRINCETON, N.J. - Thanks in large part to an advantage of 18-8 in total shots, the Princeton University men's soccer team (2-1, 1-0 Ivy) defeated cross-county rival Rider (1-5, 0-0 MAAC) by a score of 1-0.
Senior captain Chad Adams (Wheeling, W.V.) scored the game's only goal at the 21:35 mark of the first half. After a Tiger scoring chance was cleared away from the penalty area, Adams, a defenseman, blasted a shot from 40 yards that bounded in the goal off both the goal keeper and the post. The unassisted goal was Adams' first of the season and only the third of his career.
Princeton dominated the game offensively. The Tigers held an 11-0 margin in corner kicks as well as the wide shot differential.
Tiger goalkeeper Jason White (Fr., Maple Glen, Pa.) earned the first shut out of his young career. He faced seven Bronc shots and batted away two of them. He has not been scored upon in nearly 165 minutes, dating back to Sunday's Ivy league opener with Cornell.
The Tigers now hold a 11-2-3 series advantage over Rider and hit the road for the first time this season as they continue with Ivy League play at Dartmouth on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
