BETHLEHEM, Pa.— Greg Parker (Fr., Clifton Park, Pa.) had the standout performance for the Princeton University wrestling team on Saturday when he took third place at the competitive Sheridan Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University.
Parker lost 6-4 in a tremendous semifinal battle to Travis Doto of Lehigh, the eventual champion of the 165-pound weight bracket. He came back with a similar 6-4 result against Joel Dramis of North Carolina St., although this time the freshman ended on top.
This was the top highlight as the Tigers struggled in the 12-team invitational. Parker was the only placewinner as Princeton, which didn't bring a full roster, finished in 12th place.
"Greg Parker had an awesome tournament," coach Michael New said. "Jeff Bernd wrestled well but wasn't able to place. We only took a partial squad, but we looked good with our drive and commitment. We were in a lot of bouts, but we didn't have the horsepower to win them. We need to stay in the weight room and get ready for The College of New Jersey this weekend."
