PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's soccer team lost to Ivy rival Harvard, 2-0 Friday night in a pivotal league game. Princeton (10-3), lost its first Ivy game of the year and drop to 4-1, as Harvard (10-2) improves to 4-1.
Princeton had not allowed a goal in league play until tonight. Sophomore Joey Yenne scored on a give from Katie Westfall in the first half to put Harvard up 1-0. In the second half it was Westfall who was on the receiving end scoring in the 79th minute of play off an assist from Brooke McCarthy.
"I thought we played really tentative in the first half," said head coach Julie Shackford. "We played great in the second half and got a lot of momentum. That second goal was really unfortunate because we were getting our chances and really put the pressure on."
The Tigers have lost all three games in which they have been scored upon. Going into tonight's game, Princeton led the nation in team shutout percentage with 10 (.883).
Princeton travels to Loyola on Sunday Oct. 22 for a 3:00 matchup.
