PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Linley Gober (Atlanta, Ga.) scored the only goal of the night for the Princeton women's soccer team against Penn to gain a share of the Ivy League Championship and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Gober's goal came at 37:07 as Krista Ariss (Burlington, Ont.) fed her an assist. The goal would be all the Tigers would need as they carried the 1-0 throughout the remainder of game.
The Tigers outshot Penn 13-7, as goalkeeper Jordan Rettig (West Hartford, Conn.) earned her ninth shutout overall and sixth in Ivy action. Rettig made five saves on the evening, as Kathie Hunt and Vanessa Scotto combined for five saves for the Quakers.
The Princeton win coupled with Dartmouth's 4-0 victory over Cornell, gives both Princeton and Dartmouth a share of the Ivy League Championship. It is the first Ivy title for Princeton since 1982. The Tigers however, will advance to the NCAA tournament with an automatic bid by virtue of Princeton's head-to-head win over Dartmouth earlier in the season.
