Princeton Sweeps Pair Of Victories in New York

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's fencing team (9-2, 2-0 Ivy) remained undefeated in the Ivy League as it continued league play this weekend with a 21-6 win over Columbia in New York City. The Tigers picked up a close but very impressive win against powerhouse St. John's 14-13. The men (8-3, 2-0 Ivy) also defeated Columbia (18-9), but fell to the Red Storm 14-13.
The women seemed to dominate the Lions from the start. After the ?p?e squad won six of the first nine bouts, the sabre won nine straight to put the match out of reach for Columbia. Princeton managed only two wins against St. John's in the sabre competition, and four of nine in the ?p?e event. The Tigers rallied to win eight foil bouts for the 14-13 victory. Eva Petschnigg (Fr., Koblenz, Germany), whose win in the final bout clinched the victory over the Red Storm, went 6-0 on the day, while Lindsay Campbell (So., Shaker Heights, Ohio) posted a 5-1 record.
In men's competition, a 9-0 performance by the sabre squad led the Tigers to a 18-9 win against Columbia. Princeton won six of nine bouts in the ?p?e weapon to seal the victory. Against St. John's the Tigers led 12-6 after two events, but managed only one victory in the ?p?e competition for the 14-13 final score. Daniel Pratt (Fr., Granger, Tenn.) went 6-0 on the day, while Dustin Reagan (Jr., Oklahoma City, Okla.) posted a 5-1 record. The Tigers will be in action this weekend as they travel to Ithaca, N.Y., to take on Cornell, Fairleigh Dickinson and James Madison at Cornell on Saturday, Feb. 12.
