Weekend One-Timers
Lights, camera, action! -- Princeton was featured as the ECAC Game of the Week once in the 1998-99 season. The Tigers defeated Dartmouth 7-3 in their highest offensive output since the middle of the 1997-98 season.
Breaking the Union -- Princeton is 6-2-1 in its last nine games against the Skating Dutchmen and have never been swept by them under Don Cahoon. Union won the first encounter this year (3-1 at Baker Rink on Jan. 29).
Shutting Down the Union -- Princeton's last shutout came in the 1998-99 season when Nick Rankin '99 defeated Union 5-0 at Baker Rink.
Who says there aren't Y2K issues? -- Princeton is 1-6 in games this calendar year. Princeton was 4-3 in its first seven games of the 1900s.
The sequel -- Princeton is 1-3-1 in rematches this season. The Tigers have a win the second time around against Notre Dame, a tie against Yale and a loss to Clarkson, St. Lawrence and Bemidji State.
Five alive -- Defenseman David Schneider has five goals, all of which have been scored on the power play. In fact, each of his 14 points have been on the power play.
Can't win without them -- Princeton hasn't scored more than two goals in five straight games. Of their 12 losses this season, only once have they scored more than two goals (6-4 at Vermont). Of their six wins, only once did they score less than two goals (2-1 at Yale). The Tigers are 5-1-3 when they get at least three goals.
Strength in even-strength -- Princeton has scored three even-strength goals in the last five games, all of which have been losses. In the four games before that, when the Tigers went 3-1-0, Princeton scored six at even-strength.
Power-play pluses -- Princeton has scored a power-play goal in five of its last six games. The Tigers have 18 goals on the man-advantage, second in the ECAC only to Colgate. Kirk Lamb and David Schneider are tied for fourth in the league with 10 power-play points in ECAC play.
Power-play minuses -- Only one person scored multiple goals on the Princeton power play in January. He is Marc Cavosie, the freshman forward at Rensselaer who scored two shorthanded goals in one game at Baker Rink.
The Marvelous Morin -- Benoit Morin is the active career leader at Princeton in goals (27), assists (39), points (66), power-play goals (12), game-winning goals (five) and penalty minutes (296). According to Princeton hockey historian Geoff Howell, Morin is one penalty minute away from being Princeton's all-time leader.
Lamb-inated -- Kirk Lamb is fourth in the ECAC in conference assists. Twelve of his team-high 14 assists have been in league games.
Equal opportunity -- Princeton is 2-6-1 on Fridays and 2-6-1 on Saturdays. It has two wins in one-goal games, two wins in two-goal games and two wins in three- or more goal games. The Tigers have three wins with 20-29 shots on goal and three wins with 30-39 shots. They are 3-6-2 when they score first and 3-6-1 when their opponents score first. The most telling stat is goals allowed, all six of Princeton's wins came in games when the opponent scored less than four goals. On the same note, opponents scored three goals or fewer in six of Princeton's losses and four goals or more in six of Princeton's losses.
A Capital gain -- Junior Chris Corrinet, selected by the Washington Capitals in the 1998 Entry Draft, leads Princeton with seven goals and 18 points. Five of his goals have come on the power play.
Stat-hos -- Dave Stathos made a career-high 39 saves in the 4-1 loss at St. Lawrence last weekend. He made 38 saves twice this season.
A homeland for Nomeland -- Coach Don Cahoon has developed confidence in freshman goalie Nate Nomeland. The Fargo, N.D., native has made appearances in five of Princeton's last 10 games and has recorded an impressive 2.91 goals-against average and .910 save percentage.
Prime Time -- Freshman forward Scott Prime recorded his first career point when he assisted on Dave Bennett's goal at St. Lawrence.
Hold your fire! -- In five of Princeton's six wins, the Tigers have taken fewer shots than their opponents.
OK in OT -- Princeton has lost only once in its last 19 overtime contests. Its last win came against Rensselaer during the final league weekend last season. Jeff Halpern '99 beat Joel Laing for the winner.
