Men's Tennis Dominates St. John's For Ninth Win Of Season

PRINCETON, N.J. - Judson Williams (So., Raleigh, N.C.) and Nick Benjamin (So., Princeton Junction, N.J.) both closed out their matches with tough tiebreak victories in the second set, leading the Princeton University men's tennis team to an 6-1 rout of St. John's today at the Lenz Tennis Center.
Williams, playing No. 2, took the first set against Jaideep Shetty 6-2 and held on for a 7-6 (7-5) victory in the second set. No. 4 Benjamin also cruised in the first set against Cameron Lore, winning 6-1, before holding off his foe in an 8-6 tiebreak. Trevor Smith (Fr., Hilton Head, S.C.) won the only three-set match of the day at No. 3, rallying to beat Andre Vainer 2-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Princeton won all three doubles matches, although each was a hard-fought victory. Ahn Ahn Liu (Sr., Bellevue, Wash.) and Scott Borenstein (Sr., Santa Monica, Calif.) defeated Shetty and Erik Scharf 9-7 at No. 1 doubles. Scharf had the Red Storm's lone victory, defeating Kyle Kliegerman (Jr., New York, N.Y.) 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1 singles.
Princeton (9-5) will host Navy tomorrow at 2 p.m.
