PRINCETON, N.J. - Brie Galicinao (So., Stockton, Calif.) and Sarah Peterman (Sr., Davis, Calif.) were honored as the Ivy League Player and Pitcher of the Week after Princeton (15-17, 4-0 Ivy) swept Brown and Yale to open the 2000 Ivy League schedule with a 4-0 record. It is the first time Princeton has won its first four games of the league schedule since 1996, which is also the last year Princeton won the title. Mackenzie Forsythe (Fr., Lake Oswego, Ore.) was named to the Ivy Honor Roll after batting .300 for the weekend with a pair of runs and an RBI.
Galicinao, a first-team All-Ivy selection in 1999, helped Princeton to four wins by getting a hit in each game and allowing no earned runs in either start. She had a pair of RBI singles, including the game-winning RBI, in the win against Yale. She pitched 12.2 innings, striking out nine batters in the wins over Brown (5-4) and Yale (6-2). For the week Galicinao was 5-for-12 (.417) with two RBIs and a run scored. Peterman, a second-team All-Ivy selection in 1999, continued to be the Tigers' big-game pitcher as she helped the Tigers remain undefeated with a brilliant nine-inning shutout of Brown on Saturday. The lone senior on Princeton's team struck out eight batters while allowing only five hits and one walk in the victory. She pitched another complete game against Yale, allowing only two hits and one run in a 3-1 win over the Bulldogs. Peterman has won three straight games and has lowered her ERA to 1.70.
"We needed great performances from some of our top players, and Brie and Sarah certainly gave them to us," head coach Cindy Cohen, who won her 550th game over the weekend, said. "Brie has been hitting the ball well recently and continues to get better on the mound. Sarah kept us in the game Saturday until the offense finally pushed somebody across the plate. She improves with each game and will be a big factor down the stretch in the league race."
Princeton will continue its quest for a 13th Ivy League title on Friday at Penn (11-20-1, 0-4 Ivy) before hosting the 1999 champion Cornell Big Red (17-5-0, 0-1 Ivy) on Saturday, starting at 1 p.m.
