Princeton Falls to Harvard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Harvard men's tennis team played its first match in the revamped Beren Tennis Center and scored an important 4-3 victory over visiting Ivy League rival Princeton. While the win extended the Crimson's home winning streak to 38 matches, it also kept coach Dave Fish's squad's hopes alive for its sixth consecutive Ivy title.
Harvard is now 2-1 in Ivy play and 11-10 overall on the season. Princeton sees a six-match winning streak come to an end and is now 12-6 (3-1 in the league).
The Crimson won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles to earn the doubles point, and then claimed singles victories at Nos. 1, 4, and 5 to win the match. The team score was tied, 3-3, before Harvard junior Anthony Barker (Canberra, Australia) stepped up to deliver a 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) win over Tigers' freshman Trevor Smith at No. 4 singles for the decisive seventh point.
Crimson senior co-captain John Doran (Dublin, Ireland) was impressive at No. 1 singles, cruising past Princeton junior Kyle Kliegerman, 6-2, 6-2. Doran also teamed with sophomore Cilli? Swart (Lynnwood, South Africa) to post an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles over the Tigers' 50th-ranked team of seniors Ahn Ahn Liu and Scott Borenstein.
