PRINCETON, N.J. - The Princeton women's tennis team defeated Columbia 8-1 this afternoon at Jadwin Gym to move to 17-2 on the season and finish off a perfect Ivy League season for the first time since 1980. The Tigers clinched their first Ivy League title since 1994.
"We're thrilled. It's been a battle all season," said head coach Louise Gengler following the match. "After the fall we had, we were looking forward to see how we could do within the league."
Princeton clinched the match with a three-set win at No. 4 singles, a win by Pryia Bhupathi (So., Staten Island, N.Y.). In all, Princeton lost only the No. 6 singles match.
With the win, Princeton receives the Ivy League's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will find out its seeding later this week. The first round is scheduled to be played May 13 and 14.
