PRINCETON, N.J. - Vicki Siesta (Jr., W. Milford, N.J.) hit a two-run triple which opened the floodgates for a seven-run sixth inning, helping Princeton to a 10-3 win over Robert Morris in the second game of today's doubleheader at Class of 1895 Field. The Colonials hit two home runs en route to a 5-3 win in game one.
Princeton rallied to even the second game at 2-2 when Lori Volker (Jr., San Diego, Calif.) scored on a triple by Lauren Poniatowski (Jr., Haddon Heights, N.J.), who scored on a wild pitch. The two teams traded runs until the sixth inning, when Siesta's drive scored Brie Galicinao (So., Stockton, Calif.) and Sarah Jane White (So., Winter Park, Fla.). Poniatowski, Galicinao, Devon Keefe (Jr., Winter Park, Fla.) and Lizzy Callaway (So., Houston, Tx.) added RBIs in the seven-run inning. Galicinao pitched two innings in relief to earn the victory. White started and pitched well, but lost the victory when Brandi Papiernik hit a home run in the fifth inning.
Amanda Shifflet and Nora Borger hit home runs in the first game victory for Robert Morris. The Colonials trailed 2-0 in the first inning after Keefe hit her team-high third home run of the season, which also scored Volker. Robert Morris evened it with a two-run home run by Shifflet and took the lead on a double by Stephanie Ehrenfeld.
Sarah Peterman (Sr., Davis, Calif.) took the loss after pitching three innings and allowing five runs. Dana Freiser (So., Walnut Creek, Calif.) pitched well in relief, allowing one hit over four innings.
Princeton (19-23, 6-4 Ivy) will travel to Harvard for a doubleheader tomorrow at noon. Princeton is mathematically alive in the chase for an Ivy League crown, but it must win two games against the undefeated Crimson to remain alive.
