Box Score
Jersey City, NJ - The Princeton softball team had barely enough hitting today to get anybody across home plate. Fortunately, it had just enough pitching to earn one victory. It nearly got enough for two.
Sarah Peterman pitched a complete-game shutout, striking out eight batters and allowing only six hits in a 1-0 victory in the first game of the doubleheader at St. Peter's. The Tigers mustered three hits, although two were on back-to-back doubles in the sixth inning by Kim Veenstra and Lauren Poniatowski. The latter scored Veenstra for the game's only run.
Brie Galicinao pitched an exquisite second game, but she didn't get any offensive support until extra innings. The sophomore shut St. Peter's down for seven innings, but opposing hurler Kathryn Bucco matched her. Devon Keefe scored Princeton's only run in the eighth inning (which was played under international rules) on a RBI groundout by Galicinao. St. Peter's wasted no time getting the run back and won the game on single by Joy Walter.
Princeton is now 11-17 and is off until Saturday, April 8, when it hosts Brown University to open the 2000 Ivy League season.
