PRINCETON, N.J. - Vicki Siesta (Jr., W. Milford, N.J.) hit her first home run of the season in the second game of today's doubleheader to lead the Princeton University softball team to a sweep of the Drexel Dragons at Class of 1895 Field. Siesta's blast scored herself and Sarah Jane White (So., Winter Park, Fla.) for a pair of runs that would eventually help fend off a Drexel rally in the 4-3 win. Princeton won the opener 4-1 after a strong pitching performance by Sarah Peterman (Sr., Davis, Calif.).
The Tigers opened the scoring in the first game when Brie Galicinao (So., Stockton, Calif.) scored Devon Keefe (Jr., Winter Park, Fla.) with an RBI single in the fourth inning. Keefe, who led off the inning with a triple, scored her first of four runs in the doubleheader. Galicinao scored on a passed ball to extend the lead to 2-0. Tiff Oertner scored Drexel's lone run in the fifth inning on an error behind the plate by Keefe, but the Tigers quickly got two more runs in the bottom of the inning. Lauren Poniatowski (Jr., Haddon Heights, N.J.), who raised her average above .300 for the first time all season after going 3-for-6 in the doubleheader, doubled to lead off the inning and scored on an error by shortstop Cassie Snow. Galicinao drove in Keefe later in the inning for the Tigers' final run.
Peterman kept Drexel off the board for the rest of the game, limiting the Dragons to two hits and no earned runs in seven innings. She struck out three batters and walked none in the win, her ninth of the season.
The Tigers only managed four hits in the second game, but they made the most of them. None was bigger than Siesta's two-run blast in the fourth inning, which completed a three-run inning. Keefe, who scored the Tigers' first run on a sacrifice fly by Galicinao in the first inning, also scored in the third inning on an error.
Galicinao recorded her eighth win of the season after allowing one run and five hits in six innings. She had two strikeouts and didn't walk a batter. Peterman relieved her in the seventh inning after Galicinao fouled a ball off her foot in the previous inning. She allowed a solo home run to Lori Swanson but held on for her first save of the season.
