Men's Tennis Wins Consolation Rounds

PRINCETON, N.J. - John Portlock (Wilton, Conn.) lost his first singles match of the Princeton Invitational on the first day of the tournament, but earned four straight wins to become the overall winner in the consolation bracket. Portlock defeated Princeton teammate Daniel Friedman (Gainesville, Fla.) in the finals 6-5 (6), 6-1.
In the consolation doubles final, Friedman teamed up with Hendrik Chasse (Singapore) to beat Robert Pringle and Ryan Harwood of Penn in a walkover.
Earlier in the day, Judson Williams (Raleigh, N.C.) was defeated in the singles bracket finals. He lost to Oscar Chow of Columbia 6-2, 6-4.
Portlock and Trevor Smith (Hilton Head, S.C.) were eliminated in the semifinals of the doubles bracket. Columbia's Akram Zaman and Pavel Jefferson knocked out the duo 8-6.
