Kliegerman and Portlock To Participate In 2001 Rolex Championships

PRINCETON, N.J. - Men's tennis team members Kyle Kliegerman and John Portlock are on their way to the Brookhaven Country Club on the campus of Southern Methodist University to compete in the 2001 Rolex National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in doubles. The duo earned the right to participate after winning the doubles title at the ITA Men's Tennis Eastern Regionals held at Virginia Tech on November 2-6, 2000.
The Rolex Championships will be held in Dallas, Texas from February 1-4, 2001.
Kliegerman and Portlock entered the ITA Regionals as the #5 seed, and moved through the tournament field by defeating Walden and Brier of Brown 8-4, Dinkmeyer and Sloves of Dartmouth 8-5, Drake and Wolfe of Brown 6-2, 5-7, 7-6 (3), Halprin and Paulovic of Cornell 6-7 (10), 6-3, 7-5 and in the finals Berke and West of Yale 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3.
The team of Judson Williams and Daniel Friedman made it into the third round of play before the partners were eliminated by default. Williams sustained a strained muscle which kept them from continuing play. Before elimination, Williams and Friedman earned wins over Baynham and Laulund of Virginia Tech (9-7) and Carlton and Royce of Yale (8-4).
In singles action, Williams made his way to the quarterfinal round before being defeated 6-1, 6-1 by Penn State's Jamie Gresh. Williams entered the tournament as the #5 seed and earned three wins before taking the loss. Kliegerman made it through the fourth round of play for the Tigers, while Trevor Smith was defeated in the third round.
Hendrik Chasse, Tim Kofol and Portlock were all eliminated in the first two rounds of play.
