I. Princeton #1
U.S. News and World Report consistently ranks Princeton University among the elite universities worldwide for its outstanding academic facilities, academic programs and world-renowned faculty. For the past two years Princeton has been ranked #1. With 4,600 undergraduates and only 1,750 graduate students, Princeton's focus is on the undergraduate. Princeton's undergraduate program is arguably the best in the country. The single faculty teaches both undergraduate classes (freshmen as well as seniors) and graduate school courses. The professor / student ratio is approximately 7 to 1. Preceptorials, freshmen seminars, junior papers and the senior thesis are all opportunities to work closely with Princeton's greatest resource, its faculty. Princeton's open stack library, art museum and computing and information technology is among the best in the country.
II. Location
Princeton is located one hour south of New York City and one hour north of Philadelphia. The beautiful campus is located in the center of the residential town of Princeton (30,000). The many local shops and restaurants are located across the street from the campus dormitories. A campus train station connects to Madison Square Garden in NYC in one hour. The Residential Colleges organize student outings to NYC for cultural events.
III. Campus Life
Almost all students live on campus with classes and athletic facilities walking distance from the dorms. Princeton's Frist Campus Center has been recognized as one of the most outstanding and innovative University Student Centers in the country. It has been designed to foster and facilitate social and academic interaction between students and the university community. The Residential College system for freshmen and sophomores serves as both a social network and an academic support resource.
IV. Academic Support
Princeton provides a vast array of academic support for all students. The Residential Colleges for freshmen and sophomores provide: tudors, a director of studies, college masters and senior fellows, faculty advisors and peer advisors. Special help is also available through departmental representatives, class deans, individual faculty members, The Writing Center, study halls for math physics and chemistry, and review sessions. Departmental representatives and independent work advisors work closely with the junior and senior class members.
V. Athletics
Almost 30% of the Student body participate in Varsity or Junior Varsity athletics. For the 2000 -2001 academic year, Princeton won 14 Ivy League titles, two NCAA national championships, and three individuals were national champions in their sport. Princeton provides the coaching, facilities and schedule, which allow individual athletes and teams the opportunity to reach the #1 ranking in their sport. In Princeton's senior exit survey: the students' varsity athletic experience is consistently ranked among the highest of all categories. Princeton's NCAA Division I results, combined with the outstanding athletic facilities for all sports, has earned Princeton a top 20 - 25 Sears poll ranking for Division I four years running. No Ivy League school has ever broken the top twenty. Sports Illustrated for Women ranked Princeton as one of the top 10 schools in the country for Division I athletes.
V. Alumni
Princeton alumni are among the most loyal and dedicated in the country. Princeton's alumni support the University with the largest endowment per capita of any major university in the country.
