Kliegerman and Portlock knew that they had their work cut out for them coming into Sunday's final in the men's doubles competition, as they faced Virginia's team of Brian Vahaly and Huntley Montgomery. The Virginia tandem came into the Farnsworth Invitational as the No. 1-ranked doubles team in the nation. The Cavaliers won the match 8-3, but the experience will definitely help the team of Kliegerman and Portlock as the season rolls on.
The Tigers played well early, but the turning point of the match came in the fifth game when Virginia was serving up 3-2. Princeton forced a deuce, and won an advantage, however, the talented duo of Vahaly and Montgomery would come away with the point to extend their lead to 4-3. Then, the Cavaliers were able to break serve at 5-3, which put the final nail in the in the Princeton coffin.
Virginia's Vahaly defeated St. John's Erik Scharf 6-1, 7-5 to win the singles competition in the championship bracket, and St. John's Fabian Carchi defeated teammate Jake Maxwell 6-4, 6-2 to win the consolation tournament.
