last Saturday: Nate Nomeland's 60 saves against defending NCAA champion North Dakota were the second best in Princeton history (61, Walter McDonough, 60 Edward Swift). While the Tigers fell to the Fighting Sioux 5-4, Nomeland, who is from Fargo, N.D., kept Princeton in the game. Nate The Great - Fargo, N.D., native Nate Nomeland made 60 saves in the 5-4 loss against No. 3-ranked North Dakota in the consolation game of the Bank One Badger Showdown last Saturday. Nomeland broke tournament records for most saves in a game (60), most saves in a period (27) and most saves for the tournament (79), which earned him the top goalie award. In addition, Nomeland's 60-save performance was the second greatest in Princeton history, as Walter McDonough '84 registered 61 saves against Rensselaer on Feb. 4, 1984. Edward Swift '73 also recorded 60 saves in 1972 against Cornell.
Puck-Weary Princeton - The Tigers allowed a Bank One Badger Hockey Showdown record 65 shots, many of them quality scoring chances, in the 5-4 loss to North Dakota, who won last year's NCAA championship.
The McCann Man Can - Sophomore defenseman Neil McCann is fifth in team scoring with nine points (2g, 7a).
Freshmen Rearguard Clicking - Freshman Matt Maglione scored his first collegiate goal in the 6-3 loss at No. 14-ranked Wisconsin on Dec. 29, and he turned around to score the first goal of the 5-4 loss to No. 3-ranked North Dakota the next night. Fellow first-year defenseman Steve Slaton has scored points in four of the last five games.
Prime-Time Player - Scott Prime scored his first collegiate goal in the 5-4 loss to No. 3-ranked North Dakota and assisted on Kirk Lamb's late third-period goal.
First-Period Woes - The Tigers gave up three first-period goals to No. 5-ranked New Hampshire on Dec. 16 and spotted the Wisconsin Badgers five first-period goals, two of which were shorthanded goals in the last minute of the opening stanza.
Owen Coming of Age - Freshman Chris Owen recorded his first collegiate point when he assisted on Neil McCann's goal at No. 5-ranked New Hampshire. Owen coninued his scoring streak with assists against No. 14-ranked Wisconsin and No. 3-ranked North Dakota last weekend.
Soup's On - Assistant captain Shane Campbell has scored three goals in the last three games.
The Cold Lake Contributor - Cold Lake, Alberta, native and captain Kirk Lamb has scored in 11 of the 13 games he has played in this year. During that stretch Lamb has amassed five goals and 14 assists.
No Joshing Around - Josh Roberts has scored points in three of the last four games.
