PRINCETON, N.J. - Despite a 15-save performance from senior co-captain Jon Pharris (Newport Beach, Calif.) the Princeton men's water polo team fell to Navy, 9-8, in the championship game of the Collegiate Water Polo Association crossover weekend Sunday afternoon at DeNunzio Pool.
Navy held a 5-3 lead going into the final quarter and outscored the Tigers 5-4 in the final seven minutes to hold on for the win. Princeton closed the gap to 9-8 with 20 seconds remaining after a goal from freshman Michael Murray (Los Altos, Calif.) but could not tie it up and the Midshipmen held on for the win.
The Tigers got four goals from senior co-captain Marshall Roslyn (Philadelphia, Pa.). Junior Robert Urquhart (Ann Arbor, Mich.) added three goals for Princeton.
Adrian Rawn's three goals paced the Navy attack. Brendan Naeve scored two, while Joe Donahue, Paul Kepner and Tim Fox each added one.
Urquhart, junior Kevin Foster (Davis, Calif.) and Rawn were thrown out of the game with 4:22 remaining in the fourth quarter. Each will have to sit out of their team's next contest.
Princeton returns to action on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 27-28 for the Eastern College Athletic Conference tournament, hosted by Harvard University.
