Princeton, N.J. - Princeton University will play host to NCAA tournament action for the third consecutive weekend when the men's soccer team takes the field on Sunday, Nov. 25. Princeton, ranked 12th nationally in the NSCAA coaches poll, has a first-round bye and will play the winner of Fairleigh Dickinson vs. Boston College in round two.
Princeton was given the Ivy League's automatic bid after winning a share of the conference championship with a 5-1-1 league record. Brown tied Princeton for the title, however, the Tigers' 3-0 victory over Brown on Oct. 13 was the tie-breaker. Princeton finished 10-2-5 overall and finished the regular season on a 10-game unbeaten streak.
Ivy foe Harvard also made the field of 48 with an at-large berth. Harvard will take on Rutgers on Friday, Nov. 23 in Storrs, Conn. The winner of that match-up will face Connecticut on Sunday. All together, seven teams on Princeton's 2001 schedule made the tournament, including possible second-round opponent Fairleigh Dickinson. The Tigers dropped FDU, 1-0, back on Sept. 13.
Boston College and Fairleigh Dickinson will play at Lourie-Love Field on Friday, Nov. 23. Friday's game is slated for a 7 p.m. start. Sunday's contest is at 1 p.m.
