NIAGARA, N.Y. - After falling behind by three goals the night before, the Princeton men's hockey found itself looking at a seven-goal deficit Saturday at Niagara's Dwyer Arena, losing its second game of the season, 7-1.
Nick Kormanyos and Joe Tallari each had two goals for Niagara, which scored three goals in both the second and third periods.
Dan Hursh (Calgary, Alberta) snapped Niagara goalie Rob Bonk's shutout when scored off an assist from George Parros (Randolph, N.J.) with 1:09 remaining in the third period.
Nate Nomeland (Fargo, N.D.) got the start in goal for the Tigers, making 26 saves and yielding five goals before he was replaced by freshman Trevor Clay (Winnipeg, Manitoba).
The Tigers have struggled against the Purple Eagles the past two years, recording a 1-2-1 mark, but Hursh has relished the opportunity. In 14 career games, the sophomore has three points, two goals and an assist, all coming against Niagara. After losing its first two games of the season, Niagara has notched six straight victories, while Princeton is 0-2.
Princeton played without center Brad Parsons (Kingston, Mass.) and defenseman Matt Maglione (Fayetteville, N.Y.), both of whom are week to week with injuries.
Scott Prime (Moncton, N.B.) moved into Parsons' spot between Hursh and Parros.
ECAC play begins next weekend for the Tigers, who will travel to Clarkson (Nov. 9) and St. Lawrence (Nov. 10). Princeton's first home weekend is Saturday, Nov. 17 against Vermont (7 p.m.) and Sunday, Nov. 18 versus Dartmouth (3 p.m.). The annual "Skate with the Tigers" event will follow the game against the Big Green.
