Harrisonburg, Va. - Heather Deerin (Jr., Livingston, N.J) has been named first-team on the All-Mid-Atlantic Region Women's Soccer Team for the second time in her career after leading the Tigers to their second consecutive share of the League title and into the second round of the NCAA tournament. Last season, Deerin also received first-team honors. The team is named by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
Prior to the 2001 NCAA tournament, Deerin was named the 2001Ivy League Player of the Year. Deerin, who was also named first team All-Ivy for the third time, anchored a Princeton defense that allowed only four goals in Ivy play and 11 goals overall. She is Princeton's first Player of the Year selection since Dodie Colavecchio shared the award in 1985.
Those athletes that have been named to the first-team regional All-America teams, such as Deerin, are automatically entered into the pool of national All-America candidates.
Krista Ariss (Jr., Burlington, Ont.) and Janine Willis (Fr., Unionville, Ont.) were both named third team by the NSCAA. Ariss, who registered five goals and two assists in the regular season including two game-winning tallies, was named first-team All-Ivy prior to the 2001 NCAA tournament. Ariss scored the third goal in the 3-1 victory over Loyola College in the opening round of the tournament. Willis finished an impressive freshman season with four goals and one assist including the first goal of the season, the game-winner against American and the first goal in the victory over Loyola. Willis received an honorable mention by the Ivy League.
