Men's Ice Hockey Defeats Brown 4-1

Providence, R.I. - Princeton defeated Brown 4-1 on Friday night, which means that the Tigers will play in the ECAC playoffs next weekend. David Del Monte, Scott Prime, George Parros and Shane Campbell scored for the Tigers, who ended the season series with Brown with a win and a loss.
Princeton got off to a slow start when Brown scored the first goal of the game early in the first period when a Tigers' defensemen coughed up the puck in his own end. Shane Mudryk scored to put the Bears up 1-0.
Del Monte redirected a shot from Parros to even the score in the first period, as Dave Bennett started the play in his own end. Parros fired a shot, which Del Monte tipped by Brown goalie Yann Dennis. Prime scored the game-winning goal early in the second period, as he cleaned up a Chris Owen rebound. Parros scored just 1:27 later in the second stanza to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Sophomore defenseman Neil McCann did a tremendous to keep the puck in the offensive zone and found Brad Parsons, who made a beautiful pass to Parros.
Shane Campbell scored an empty-net goal with 19.4 seconds remaining in regulation, which was the icing on the cake for Len Quesnelle's team, who clinched a playoff berth with their 4-1 win at Brown on Friday night.
"Our destiny was in our own hands, " commented Quesnelle, "you don't want to back-in to the playoffs with someone else knocking another team off."
Goalie Dave Stathos made 31 saves in the 4-1 win, and earned the second star of the game for his efforts.
With Princeton's win at Brown, Dartmouth's surprising win at St. Lawrence, Harvard's 5-4 win against Yale and Rensselaer's 2-1 win at Cornell, Princeton still has a chance to earn home ice in the first round of the ECAC playoffs next weekend. In order for the Tigers to host a first-round series next weekend, Union would have to win at Cornell, Colgate must beat Rensselaer and, most importantly, Princeton would have to win at Harvard tomorrow night. Rensselaer defeated Colgate 3-2 earlier this season, while Union defeated Cornell 3-2 in an early-season contest. Harvard defeated Princeton 4-3 on Jan. 12 at Baker Rink.
If the Tigers are unable to win at Harvard tomorrow night, then Princeton will play at Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell or Rensselaer. Whatever happens tomorrow night, Princeton can be seed no lower than eight in the playoffs, since Colgate defeated Union tonight.
